22 cyanotype prints on drawing paper 224 g/m2 and linen
Variable dimensions
As rainfall is becoming more and more scarce every year in Morocco, the High Atlas mountains are now facing annual draughts that are threatening life in the region. What will remain of our memories of water when the rivers have all but dried up?
Using the cyanotype printing process, this project engages with the ephemeral and ever-changing nature of water by trying to map its movements. Working directly along the mountain rivers, the prints were made by allowing water to flow on the photosensitive surfaces, progressively rinsing the cyanotype solution and registering its intricate marks and shapes.
Some of the prints were included in the video work ‘The Water We Seek’ by Jessica El Mal, shown as part of the group exhibition ‘The Poetics of Water’ at Castlefield Gallery, Manchester in June 2023.
